The Apple Valley Project across from Orchard Park is now full.

There is nothing like this in Kelowna.  It is a unique and new form of housing and supports for seniors aged 55 years and older.

The project offers one and two bedroom apartments for rent. Each apartment has its own kitchen and is a fully self contained.  The finishing throughout the building is - simply beautiful.

This project also offers an extensive Recreation and Social center for seniors. The Center is already built and included in Phase I.  The Recreation Center provides a Fireside Lounge and library; a multi-purpose room, a 6 lane bowling alley, meeting rooms and large community kitchen for social functions.

Apple Valley is a "blended" housing project: 36 of the units are subsidized to make them affordable; 36 units are rented at market rates.  (Please see the Frequently Asked Questions under Senior's Housing - Apple Valley for more details of how rent is calculated.)

Funding partners include the Federal Government of Canada; The Provincial Government of BC; the City of Kelowna and the Society of HOPE.

Base rental rates start as low as $450 per month go up to $960 per month for a large two bedroom apartment.

April 7, 2011 Update:

- All units are now rented.

- We thank all people that applied for housing and regret that some applicants could not be placed.

The Ziglar Recreation and Senior Support Center features a 6 lane bowling alley!  Yes, this a fully functional 5 pin bowling alley. Apple Valley Lanes is incorporated into Phase I of the Apple Valley project.

A primary goal of the Apple Valley project is to provide opportunities for seniors to be both physically and socially active. The Bowling Alley is central to this vision.

The furniture has arrived for the expansive "Fireside Lounge" in the Ziglar Recreation Center.  This beautiful room is open to the residents of Apple Valley April 1, 2011.  The room is ideal for reading, visiting and playing card games  - cribbage or Bridge anyone?

The fully equipped Kitchen resembles a "church hall." This space provides the opportunity for "pot lucks" and social gatherings.

The Construction is complete on the 10 new modular homes in Lake Country B.C.  and the new residents have now moved in. The new units have their own entrance and Address so the Society has decided to give the units their own name as well.

The project has been named "Pinewood Villas." We believe it captures the beautiful exterior architecture of these homes. This project is connected to  Cedar Court (next door) and will share the community centre and common properties.

Delays with Hydro hook-up pushed the occupancy date back to May 1, 2011 from the original target date of April 1, 2011 - but the wait was worth it for the 10 new residents.

These cute little "villas" are pre-constructed off-site. Exterior finishes include cedar siding and large wooden pillars. Once delivered, they are placed on cement foundations and then the permanent roof structures are added to complete the units.  Each "Villa"  is is 600 square feet in size. These are efficiently designed to make the most of the space.

L-R MP Ron Cannan; Mayor James Baker; Minister Rich Coleman; Minister Stockwell Day; MLA Norm Letnick; President Lorne Gerber and Resident Representative Taryn Edwards:

The Dignitaries were out in unity to celebrate the sod turning for the Cedar Court Expansion in Lake Country B.C. This $1.73 million Dollar expansion is funded  by a joint partnership between  the Federal Government of Canada and The Provincial Government of B.C.  Joining the partnership is the Society of Hope bringing $223,700.00 in land toward the project.

This is the first time the Society has used pre-manufactured modular homes. These 10 new homes will be added to the 30 existing homes on the property. The original homes on this property were built in 1981. Not to be left out, the existing homes will be getting an energy upgrade in the near future to ensure their longevity, efficiency and comfort for the residents. The project is scheduled to begin construction in September 2010 and complete by January 2011.

This is one of 32 housing projects announced across the Province that will be funded through "Canada's Economic Action Plan." There will be 400 new units of Senior's housing built in BC.

The Society of Hope Board and staff wish to recognize the dedication of BC Housing staff who worked diligently to bring this project to fruition.
