L-R MP Ron Cannan; Mayor James Baker; Minister Rich Coleman; Minister Stockwell Day; MLA Norm Letnick; President Lorne Gerber and Resident Representative Taryn Edwards:

The Dignitaries were out in unity to celebrate the sod turning for the Cedar Court Expansion. This $1.73 million Dollar expansion is funded  by a joint partnership between  the Federal Government of Canada and The Provincial Government of B.C.  Joining the partnership is the Society of Hope. It invested $223,700.00 in land toward the project.

This is the first time the Society has used pre-manufactured modular homes. The 10 new homes will be added to the 30 existing homes on the property that date back to 1981. Not to be left out, the existing homes will be getting an energy upgrade in the near future to ensure their longevity, efficiency and comfort for the residents. The project is scheduled to begin construction in September 2010 and complete by January 2011.

This is one of 32 housing projects announced across the Province that will be funded through "Canada's Economic Action Plan." There will be 400 new units of Senior's housing built in BC.

The Society of Hope Board and staff wish to recognize the dedication of BC Housing staff who worked diligently to bring this project to fruition.

Dignitaries and Society of Hope Board and Staff celebrate a great day for Senior's Housing!

It is July 2010 and the Apple Valley building site is cooking. Outdoor temperature is 33 degrees and it is hot! The crews continue to make excellent progress. As of July 8, siding is beginning to appear on the building. The Drywall crews are working inside and much of the plumbing and electrical are now in place. The project remains on schedule. This picture shows the new siding on the eastern face of the building.

The Society of Hope wishes to welcome the former  members of the Desert Breeze Co-op to our organization.

Background: The Desert Breeze Co-op issued a Request for Proposal to non profit housing societies in Spring of 2010. The Co-Op was seeking an organization to assume the ownership of the 54 unit town home complex and to provide property management to the residents. The site was to be converted from a Co-Op to a rental property. The Society of Hope submitted a bid and was selected from the respondents and awarded the RFP.

Effective July 1, 2010 the Society will provide property management to the site. It will operate under the Homes BC program in partnership with BC Housing.  The property will be managed in the same fashion the other five Society of Hope Family projects are run.

In consultation with the former owners, the Society has chosen a new name for the project. It will be Providence Ridge.

We look forward to managing this site and providing the same quality affordable housing opportunities to residents that the other Society of Hope locations feature.
