Cedar Court Expansion - Pinewood Villas FAQ's
What is the name of the Project?
The project has been named Pinewood Villas. This was done to avoid confusion between the existing Cedar Court site, with its seperate entrance, and the new 10 unit site.
Who is building for?
Independent living for seniors 55 yrs and older
How many units?
There are 10 new units in total. (Currently there are 30 one bedroom units at Cedar Court)
All new units have one bathroom with a shower with a grab bar.
Ten - 1 bedroom units
How many are subsidized?
All units are subsidized
How much is the subsidized rent?
These units are set at Low-end-of market (LEM rates.)
One bedroom units are subsidized to approximately $415.00 - $600 per month. (depends on Income)

1 bedroom $32,500
Does the Government provide monthly subsidies for the new Cedar Court units?
No. The Society must manage the property from rental incomes it charges. The Federal and Provincial Governments have provided one time grants to make this project possible.
What method can I pay rent?
All Tenants must agree to be on Pre-authorized Debit (PAD)
How much is the damage deposit?
One half of the first month's rent.
Are there any meals provided?
No – Each unit is self contained with its own kitchen. There is “Community Hall” kitchen in the Rec. Center if Tenants desire to put on a coordinated event.
Is there a Tenants organization for social events?
Yes. The Society encourages tenants to participate in the Tenant’s Organization.
Can I have a BBQ on my deck?
Yes
Are there pictures of the units to look at?
Yes these are available. Please see pictures in the "News" section of the Society of Hope site.
When will the units be ready?
Units were completed May 1, 2011. All units have now been rented.
What appliances are included in the rent?
Fridge, Electric stove, washer and dryer and Air Conditioner. (All appliances are white)
Are there laundry facilities in the building?
Each unit comes with a washer and dryer.
Bathrooms?
Each unit has one three piece bathroom 
What height are toilets?
Toilets are standard size. .
Does each unit have a bathtub or shower?
Fibreglass molded showers with a metal grab bar are provided in each unit. 
Kitchen sink?
Each kitchen is equipped with a single stainless steel sink.
How are units heated?
Electric baseboard heat.
Is electricity included in the rent?
No – Each Tenant must make arrangements with Fortis for their own electricity.
Is Air Conditioning included?
The Society provides an air conditioner in each unit. The electricity cost to run the air conditioner is paid by the Tenant.

What about Pets at Cedar Court?
The Society has a Pet policy. A tenant may keep the following animals as a pet:
a bird;
a fish;
a rodent;
a cat (with a deposit and pet agreement)
a small dog (with a deposit and a pet agreement)
Do I need personal belongings insurance?
Yes. Tenants are encouraged to carry adequate insurance coverage for fire, smoke, and water damage, and theft, on their own possessions. Tenants may be held liable for accidental injury, damage or breakage arising from the Tenants abusive, willful or negligent act or omission, or that of their guests.
Community Gardens – Is there a place I can garden?
Yes. The Society has constructed 10 community gardens in consultation with the Central Okanagan Community Gardens Association (COCG.) Gardens are assigned on a first-come first serve basis. Currently all existing gardens have been assigned.
